Role & Responsibilities
- Identify and select high‑quality semi‑finished leather materials that satisfy aesthetic, technical, quality, regulatory and cost requirements for collections.
- Collaborate with Design Accessories, product development, purchasing and production teams to adapt existing materials and develop new ones for each collection.
- Monitor and coordinate the development of prints, finishes and surface treatments with internal studios, the Florence Materials teams and external manufacturers.
- Manage quality testing, certification and compliance processes to meet environmental, safety and maison standards.
- Coordinate with Product Development for prototype and swatch launches; ensure accurate handoffs and sampling timelines.
- Maintain and develop strategic supplier relationships; identify and qualify new suppliers and tanneries.
- Provide material and pre‑pricing estimates to support costing and sourcing decisions.
- Conduct continuous market and trend research on material innovations, technologies and sustainability best practices; represent the maison at trade shows and industry events.
- Share findings and align regularly with the central Sourcing team to support the Maison's supplier strategy.
Qualifications
- Degree from a fashion or engineering school, or a technical certificate in the leather industry.
- Minimum 7 years' experience in leather goods production departments and/or tanneries, with proven materials sourcing responsibilities.
- Technical knowledge of semi‑finished materials and leather processing techniques applicable to leather goods.
- Fluency in French and Italian required; advanced English (C1–C2) essential.
- Demonstrated negotiation skills and experience managing supplier relationships.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, autonomy and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Sensitivity to quality standards and sustainable development practices in materials sourcing.
