Role & Responsibilities
- Conduct periodic inspections and supervise maintenance of conservation and exhibition spaces (galleries, archives, transit and mannequin areas) to ensure optimal preservation conditions
- Monitor and verify climatic conditions in all collection spaces and liaise with HVAC systems contractors
- Verify lighting levels, calculate exposure times, and maintain detailed documentation in the collections database
- Manage pest prevention protocols including trapping, micro-aspiration of textile collections, and anoxia treatments in collaboration with external specialists
- Alert to mechanical or chemical damage on artworks and formulate preventive recommendations
- Coordinate interfaces with external specialists including conservators, preventive conservationists, restorers, and lighting designers
- Participate in drafting condition reports for works entering the collection and during exhibition loans
- Monitor and participate in preventive and remedial restoration campaigns as defined by heritage department leadership
- Support implementation of cultural property safeguarding protocols
- Participate in collection movements, maintain accurate location tracking in the collections database
- Develop exhibition documentation including artwork lists, technical specifications, and project schedules for gallery exhibitions and external loan requests
- Review facility reports and scenography plans to ensure artwork compatibility
- Verify and validate artwork presentation methods and display specifications
- Manage condition documentation, packaging, insurance, transport arrangements, and courier services for loaned pieces
- Oversee installation of mannequined textile pieces
- Ensure compliance with all loan conditions throughout exhibition duration
Qualifications
- Master's degree (Bac+5 equivalent) in collection management and preventive conservation
- Minimum 3 years professional experience as a registrar specializing in preventive conservation
- Mastery of preventive conservation techniques and artifact handling protocols
- Knowledge of conservation materials and textile support mounting methods for historical garments
- Comprehensive understanding of fashion history and silhouette morphology from 1947 to present
- Fluency in French and English (written and oral)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop)
- Knowledge of collections management database software
