Chanel seeks a VIP Alterations Specialist in New York to deliver exceptional tailoring on luxury garments with 5+ years of luxury retail experience.
Role & Responsibilities
- Execute high-quality alterations on ready-to-wear and haute couture garments, including hemming, mending, lengthening, and adjusting seams, all within established time frame standards
- Properly fit each garment for VIPs and demonstrate proficiency in altering a diverse range of garment types
- Interact professionally and appropriately with VIP clientele, maintaining the highest level of confidentiality across all key players, including publicists, agents, stylists, managers, and assistants
- Maintain current knowledge of Chanel-specific alteration techniques, including fabrication and styling of luxury garments through dedicated training
- Ensure all sewing machines and equipment are in proper working order and perform preventative maintenance as needed
- Build positive team relationships to inspire trust and foster effective teamwork within the alterations and boutique departments
- Communicate regularly with the VIP relations team globally and locally to determine client specifications, needs, and preferences
- Use irons and pressing machines to erase creases on garments and other articles
- Create alterations that can be reversed without cutting, maintaining the integrity of Chanel pieces
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of current Chanel collections and ready-to-wear product offerings
- Contribute to the evaluation of potential future members of the regional alterations community as necessary
- Facilitate boutique opening and closing procedures, manage inventory receiving, and coordinate product shipping to support sales and ensure optimal client service
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of alterations experience in a luxury retail environment
- Exceptional expertise in sewing with mastery in both tailoring and flou techniques
- Sound knowledge of various fabrics and sewing techniques, including specialty skills such as leather, knits, double-face, beading, and fine tailoring
- Ability to work effectively under time constraints whilst maintaining exceptional quality standards
- Exceptional client service skills with a truly service-minded orientation
- Strong attention to detail and meticulous craftsmanship
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in a team environment and work collaboratively
- Excellent communication skills, with foreign language proficiency preferred
- Ability to lift 20 lbs regularly
- Flexibility to work late nights, weekends, and select holidays as required
