Chanel is hiring a Toxicologist (12‑month contract) in Pantin, France — responsible for cosmetic safety assessments and regulatory dossiers.
Role & Responsibilities
- Conduct toxicological hazard identification and quantitative risk assessments for cosmetic and personal-care ingredients and finished products.
- Prepare and maintain safety dossiers and regulatory submissions in accordance with EU Cosmetics Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 and SCCS expectations.
- Interpret data from in vitro, in chemico and in vivo studies, and liaise with external contract research organizations and analytical laboratories.
- Draft scientific reports, safety assessment conclusions and internal guidance documents for cross‑functional stakeholders (R&D, regulatory, quality, marketing).
- Provide toxicology input to product development and claim substantiation, including exposure assessment and margin of safety calculations.
- Monitor scientific literature, regulatory updates and guidance (SCCS, REACH, OECD) to ensure ongoing compliance and advise on reformulation or restriction risk.
- Support incident reviews and post‑market surveillance related to safety signals, coordinating follow-up testing or corrective actions when required.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Toxicology, Pharmacology, Pharmacy, or a related biomedical science; PhD preferred.
- Proven experience preparing safety assessments and regulatory dossiers for cosmetics or consumer health products.
- Demonstrated knowledge of EU Cosmetics Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 and SCCS processes; familiarity with REACH and OECD test guidelines.
- Excellent scientific writing skills and ability to communicate complex toxicological conclusions to non-specialist stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting in vitro and toxicokinetic data.

Experience
Minimum 3 years of professional experience in toxicology, ideally within the cosmetics, personal care or consumer products sector, including direct experience with EU safety assessments and regulatory dossier preparation.
Education
Master’s degree in Toxicology, Pharmacology, Pharmacy or equivalent; PhD in a relevant discipline preferred.
