Chanel seeks an experienced Tailor in Guadalajara, Mexico to deliver luxury alterations and perfect-fit services for ready-to-wear collections.
Role & Responsibilities
- Execute complex and simple alterations on tailored and flowing pieces according to technical specifications and Chanel standards
- Interpret alteration work orders and clients' specifications, understanding the creative intent and original silhouette of each garment
- Dismantle, perform alterations, assemble, and finish garments with precision, ensuring invisible and careful workmanship
- Conduct fit assessments using mannequins and make necessary adjustments to ensure optimal fit and proportions
- Inspect and correct finishes including buttons, threads, trims, lockstitches, labels, and wrapping details
- Repair or replace defective garment components such as pockets, zippers, snaps, buttons, cuff links, and linings
- Assist the Fitting Tailor during client fittings and conduct fittings independently when required
- Maintain alteration equipment and tools, alerting supervisors to supply needs
- Comply with alteration paperwork, procedures, schedules, and planning systems
- Participate in boutique meetings and trainings, particularly those related to ready-to-wear
- Share technical knowledge with team members, coaches, and motivate colleagues
- Exchange best practices and tips with other tailors and actively seek feedback
- Support colleagues during periods of high activity and workload peaks
Qualifications
- Academic training in clothing, fashion design, or completed apprenticeship in tailoring
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience as a tailor with basic to advanced alteration skills
- Strong expertise in both woven and flowing couture construction and sewing techniques
- Comprehensive knowledge of garment construction, fabric properties, and Chanel design principles
- Complete proficiency with sewing machines and specialized tailoring equipment
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a strong sense of team collaboration
- Demonstrated organizational abilities, rigor, and prioritization skills
- Adaptability and openness to change
- Willingness to learn and apply new technologies and methods in the workplace
Skills
Experience
At least 5 years of professional experience as a tailor with basic to advanced alteration skills. Prior experience in an international fashion house or luxury retail environment is advantageous. The candidate must demonstrate a deep understanding of ready-to-wear construction and the ability to execute complex alterations while preserving the designer's creative intent.
Education
Academic training in clothing and fashion design, or completion of a formal apprenticeship program in tailoring or equivalent professional qualification.
