CHANEL’s Senior Human Resources Manager leads core people processes and partners with boutique leadership across the Greater New York Fashion market, supporting Saks New York, Short Hills, Saks Greenwich, and Neiman Marcus Paramus. The role spans employee engagement, talent development, performance management, recruitment, employee relations, and compliance, with boutique work required at least three days per week. Full-time position.
Role & Responsibilities
- Lead core human resources processes across Fashion boutiques in the Greater New York market and identify opportunities for tailored people strategies.
- Partner with Boutique Leadership Teams (BLTs) to strengthen leadership capabilities and drive performance through a people-centered approach.
- Foster an inclusive culture and embody CHANEL competencies and behaviors, with a focus on employee well-being.
- Build connections across boutique teams through regular presence, one-to-one check-ins, roundtable discussions, and pulse checks.
- Partner with the Market Senior Group Director, BLTs, and the Education Team to onboard and integrate new team members.
- Support BLTs in career discussions with team members and identify development needs.
- Contribute to organizational structure, workforce planning, talent reviews, and succession planning with the Senior Group Director, P&O—Fashion Retail.
- Guide annual compensation and performance reviews for the boutiques, advising and supporting each BLT.
- Analyze trends and apply insights to P&O priorities, including diversity and well-being.
- Partner with BLTs to identify performance gaps and opportunities; advise on coaching, counseling, disciplinary actions, and exits.
- Promote consistency in performance matters and process administration in collaboration with BLTs and P&O partners.
- Champion diversity and inclusion, forecast hiring needs with BLTs, particularly for peak seasons, and promote internal mobility.
- Support Talent Acquisition sourcing strategies and may organize and lead in-person recruitment events for large-scale hiring.
- Manage and resolve employee relations issues through timely, effective, thorough, and objective investigations.
- Consult with the internal Employee Relations, P&O, and Legal teams to ensure consistent handling of employee relations matters.
- Partner with Benefits to manage workers’ compensation issues, leaves of absence, and accommodations.
- Build knowledge of employment best practices and federal and state employment requirements, including business processes, talent management and development, hiring, employee relations, policies and procedures, change management, problem-solving, and meeting design.
- Partner with Legal, Retail Operations, Asset Protection, Employee Relations, and Total Rewards to align and respond to inquiries.
Qualifications
- At least 7 years of core HR (HR Generalist) experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Ability to work in boutiques three or more days per week, typically two days at Saks New York and alternating days at the Short Hills, Saks Greenwich, and Neiman Marcus Paramus boutiques; the schedule across locations varies with business needs.
- Prior HR experience in a retail or wholesale environment is preferred, along with a willingness to work regularly on-site in a retail environment.
- Employee relations experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence and assess situations objectively.
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize.
