Chanel seeks a Senior Counsel, Anti-Counterfeiting in NYC to lead U.S. brand protection strategy, manage enforcement across digital and retail channels, and oversee a growing legal team.
Role & Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the U.S. anti-counterfeiting strategy aligned with global priorities, defining annual objectives and KPIs to measure enforcement impact and operational performance
- Own program governance, including matter intake, prioritization, playbooks, escalation procedures, and continuous process improvement to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
- Manage program budget and oversee investigators, service providers, and external counsel, ensuring cost-effective deployment and high-quality outcomes
- Lead online and digital enforcement across e-commerce marketplaces, social platforms, domains, and emerging channels using data and technology for detection and investigations
- Oversee notice-and-takedown workflows and vendor performance management, optimizing operating models to balance automation with strategic legal oversight
- Direct investigative strategy and enforcement planning for physical-location counterfeiting, partnering with internal teams and outside service providers
- Maintain relationships with investigators and outside counsel to ensure consistent execution, timely reporting, and escalation of priority matters
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of legal counsel and paralegals through goal-setting, role clarification, and capability-building
- Advise internal stakeholders on anti-counterfeiting matters, risk assessment, incident response, and decision-making protocols
- Represent Chanel with external stakeholders including trade associations, law enforcement, government agencies, and industry peers to advance brand protection priorities
- Partner with global and regional teams to strengthen platform relationships, harmonize standards and tooling, and scale best practices across markets
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
- Admission to at least one U.S. state bar (New York preferred)
- 7+ years of experience in trademarks and anti-counterfeiting, including investigations and civil enforcement
- Proven experience working with law enforcement and criminal matters
- Ideally, experience in both law firm and in-house legal environments
- Deep understanding of technology used for counterfeit detection, online platforms, and notice-and-takedown procedures
- Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail

Experience
7+ years of professional experience in trademarks and anti-counterfeiting work, including investigations, civil enforcement, and engagement with law enforcement or criminal matters. Experience in both law firm and in-house environments is preferred. Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex, multi-jurisdictional enforcement initiatives.
Education
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school; admission to at least one U.S. state bar required (New York strongly preferred).

Compensation
The base compensation for this position ranges from USD 134,900 to USD 195,000 per annum.
