Chanel seeks a Seamstress in Toronto to perform couture alterations, repairs and sample construction for luxury garments.
Role & Responsibilities
- Execute precision alterations, repairs and couture finishing on luxury garments to Chanel standards, including hand‑sewn techniques and invisible finishes.
- Construct samples and prototypes for fittings, applying pattern amendments and bespoke adjustments as directed by design and atelier teams.
- Operate and maintain industrial and specialized sewing equipment (including Juki/Pfaff style machines), pressing apparatus and hand‑sewing tools, ensuring readiness and safety.
- Perform meticulous quality control inspections, document alterations and submit garments for final approval in accordance with internal checklists.
- Collaborate closely with fitters, designers and production staff to translate technical notes into accurate garment modifications while meeting delivery timelines.
- Manage workflow for a small alterations queue, prioritize urgent client requests and maintain confidentiality with high‑value items.
Qualifications
- Vocational diploma or professional certification in tailoring, dressmaking or fashion technology, or equivalent hands‑on apprenticeship experience.
- Excellent command of couture hand‑sewing techniques (e.g., catch stitch, slip stitch, blind hem) and advanced machine sewing skills.
- Strong ability to read and alter patterns, interpret technical sketches and execute precise fitting corrections.
- Exceptional attention to detail, manual dexterity and a demonstrable track record of delivering immaculate finishes on delicate fabrics.
- Ability to work with luxury materials including silk, wool, cashmere and leather, observing strict handling and care procedures.
- High degree of discretion, reliability and the capacity to work to tight deadlines in a fast‑paced atelier environment.
