Chanel seeks an experienced Privacy Legal Counsel in Seoul to lead data protection strategy and ensure regulatory compliance across global operations.
Role & Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive privacy and data protection policies aligned with applicable laws and regulations
- Advise internal stakeholders across all departments on privacy compliance requirements and best practices
- Conduct privacy impact assessments and risk analyses for new business initiatives, product launches, and technology implementations
- Manage data subject requests including access, deletion, and portability rights in accordance with applicable data protection legislation
- Monitor regulatory developments and evolving privacy frameworks to ensure organizational compliance
- Represent the organization in communications with data protection authorities and regulatory bodies
- Collaborate with IT, security, and compliance teams to establish robust data protection and privacy controls
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor or equivalent law degree required
- Admission to the bar or recognized legal qualification in South Korea or relevant jurisdiction
- Deep expertise in privacy law, data protection regulations, and compliance frameworks
- Knowledge of international privacy standards and frameworks such as GDPR, PIPL, and POPIA
- Demonstrated experience advising multinational organizations on complex privacy matters
- Strong understanding of digital privacy, cybersecurity, and data governance principles
Skills
Experience
Minimum 7–10 years of progressive legal experience, with at least 5 years specializing in privacy law, data protection, or regulatory compliance. Prior experience advising multinational consumer brands or luxury goods organizations is highly valued.
Education
Juris Doctor (J.D.), Master of Laws (LL.M.) in privacy, data protection, or related field preferred. Bar admission in South Korea or equivalent legal qualification required.
