Chanel is hiring a Legal Counsel in Mexico City to advise on commercial, IP and compliance matters for its Mexican operations.
Role & Responsibilities
- Provide day‑to‑day legal advice on commercial contracts, distribution, retail and supplier agreements for Mexico City operations.
- Advise on intellectual property protection and enforcement (trademarks, designs, anti‑counterfeiting), coordinating investigations and enforcement actions with external counsel and local authorities.
- Counsel business partners on regulatory and compliance matters including consumer protection, advertising, product compliance and export controls.
- Manage litigation and administrative proceedings; supervise and instruct external law firms and advocates.
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial and collaboration agreements, licensing arrangements and NDAs; translate legal risk into practical business recommendations.
- Support corporate governance, internal policies and employment‑related legal queries in coordination with HR and regional legal teams.
- Liaise with regional and global legal teams to ensure alignment with group policies and cross‑border matters.
Qualifications
- Law degree (LLB, JD or equivalent) and admission to practice law in Mexico (abogado) or equivalent local qualification.
- Minimum 5 years' professional experience in corporate or commercial law, as in‑house counsel or in private practice advising commercial clients; experience with luxury, retail or consumer brands is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated track record managing litigation and supervising external counsel.
- Excellent drafting and negotiation skills, with the ability to communicate legal concepts clearly to commercial stakeholders.
- Fluent Spanish and professional working proficiency in English (written and spoken).
- High standards of discretion, ethical judgment and a commercially focused mindset.

Experience
At least five years of relevant legal experience, ideally combining in‑house advisory and private practice exposure, with demonstrated handling of commercial contracts, IP matters, regulatory compliance and litigation in the retail or consumer goods sectors.
Education
Law degree (LLB/JD or equivalent) with admission to practice in Mexico (abogado) or equivalent local qualification.
Workplace
The successful candidate will be located in Mexico City, Ciudad de México, Mexico.
