Chanel in Seoul seeks a Legal Counsel, Brand Protection to lead IP enforcement, anti‑counterfeiting and litigation.
Role & Responsibilities
- Lead and execute brand protection strategy in South Korea, including trademark enforcement, anti‑counterfeiting operations and border measures.
- Manage litigation, administrative proceedings and alternative dispute resolution with responsibility for case strategy and budget control.
- Instruct and supervise external counsel and investigators across contentious and enforcement matters.
- Coordinate cross‑functional responses to infringements, including collaboration with retail, e‑commerce, customs, loss prevention and public affairs teams.
- Conduct and oversee online marketplace, social media and marketplace takedown processes and develop proactive monitoring programs.
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements, cease‑and‑desist letters, settlements and enforcement-related documentation.
- Advise on product launches, marketing campaigns and distribution strategies to mitigate IP and regulatory risk.
- Develop training and guidelines for internal stakeholders on brand protection policies, evidence preservation and anti‑counterfeiting best practices.
Qualifications
- Qualified lawyer admitted to practice in South Korea or equivalent foreign qualification with relevant local experience.
- Typically 5+ years post‑qualification experience in intellectual property, brand protection, anti‑counterfeiting or related contentious practice.
- Proven track record of managing IP litigation and enforcement matters, including coordination with customs and law enforcement.
- Experience working with e‑commerce platforms and executing online takedown strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to manage external counsel and control legal spend.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation and project‑management skills adapted to commercial stakeholders.
- Strong judgment, discretion and ability to advise senior business leaders under time pressure.

Experience
Typically 5+ years of post‑qualification experience focused on intellectual property, brand protection, or contentious matters; in‑house experience within luxury retail or fashion is highly desirable.
Education
Law degree (LL.B., J.D. or equivalent) and admission to practise in South Korea or an equivalent foreign qualification with relevant local practice experience.
