Chanel is hiring a Lead, Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting in London — senior technical accountant to oversee IFRS reporting and audit liaison.
Role & Responsibilities
- Lead preparation, consolidation and review of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting frameworks and internal reporting timetables.
- Provide authoritative technical accounting guidance on complex transactions including revenue recognition, lease accounting, inventory, stock-based compensation, business combinations and restructuring.
- Develop, document and maintain accounting policies, technical memos and position papers to ensure consistent application across entities.
- Coordinate external statutory and group audits; act as principal liaison with auditors on technical accounting matters and report-back to senior management.
- Drive improvements to month-end close processes, balance sheet reconciliations and reporting automation to enhance accuracy and timeliness.
- Partner with tax, treasury, FP&A and legal teams to assess accounting impacts of commercial initiatives, contracts and new product programmes.
- Mentor and coach junior accountants; lead cross-functional projects and contribute to change initiatives such as ERP or reporting tool upgrades.
- Ensure robust internal controls over financial reporting and support internal control testing and remediation activities.
Qualifications
- Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA or equivalent) or demonstrable equivalent experience.
- Deep technical knowledge of IFRS and experience applying UK GAAP or other relevant local GAAP.
- Proven track record advising on complex technical accounting issues (revenue, leases, consolidation, business combinations).
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex accounting positions clearly to auditors, senior finance stakeholders and non-accounting audiences.
- Experience producing consolidated group reporting for multinational entities and familiarity with intercompany and treasury accounting.

Typically requires 7+ years of progressive technical accounting and financial reporting experience within a multinational retail, fashion, luxury goods or consumer goods environment, including prior experience in a leadership or senior individual-contributor role and exposure to external audits and statutory reporting.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; professional accounting qualification preferred (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA or equivalent).
