Craft Trainer role at Cartier in La Chaux-de-Fonds: mentor apprentices in precision mechanics and CNC operations within a heritage luxury watchmaking maison.
Role & Responsibilities
- Provide daily mentorship and supervision to apprentices throughout their training programme
- Train apprentices in conventional and CNC turning, conventional and CNC milling, mechanical assembly, dimensional and quality control, blueprint interpretation, and technical design and drawing
- Develop apprentice autonomy, rigour, and critical thinking capabilities
- Transmit workshop standards, safety protocols, and company best practices
- Embody and communicate Cartier's heritage values and independent spirit to trainees
- Construct and maintain apprenticeship learning pathways aligned with CFC (Certificat Fédéral de Compétence) requirements
- Establish, monitor, and adjust training schedules to optimise skill development
- Identify capability gaps and implement targeted progression interventions
- Propose continuous improvements to pedagogical content and methods
- Conduct regular progress evaluations and prepare weekly/monthly assessment reports
- Facilitate apprentice-trainer and multi-stakeholder training partnership meetings
- Monitor achievement of individual development objectives and ensure successful team integration
- Manage workshop training materials, equipment, and consumables
- Maintain availability and serviceability of pedagogical and technical training resources
- Contribute to identification and justification of training-related capital investment requirements
Qualifications
- CFC (Certificat Fédéral de Compétence) in Polymechanics, Micromechanics, or equivalent professional qualification
- Demonstrated professional experience in machining and mechanical disciplines
- Proven expertise in conventional turning and milling operations
- Proficiency with CNC programming and CNC machining
- Mastery of technical blueprint interpretation and mechanical design principles
- Strong capability in apprenticeship instruction and skills transfer
- Deep understanding of dimensional metrology and quality assurance protocols
Skills
Experience
Confirmed professional experience in machining and mechanical fields, demonstrating mastery of conventional machining techniques and CNC operations. Proven track record in technical instruction and apprenticeship mentorship within precision manufacturing environments.
Education
CFC (Certificat Fédéral de Compétence) in Polymechanics, Micromechanics, or equivalent professional credential recognised in Switzerland.
