Canada Goose is hiring a Retail Systems Product Owner in Toronto for an 18-month contract. The role owns the Shopify POS backlog and product priorities, leads agile delivery, releases and UAT, and connects store teams with technology partners; the advertised annual salary range is CAD 86,000–121,000, with the actual offer dependent on experience, skills and role alignment.
Role & Responsibilities
- Own and maintain the Shopify POS product backlog across the retail fleet, in partnership with the Director of Retail Operations and Retail Systems technology team.
- Set Shopify POS backlog priorities; write user stories and acceptance criteria, ranking work by store impact, commercial value and delivery effort.
- Participate as Product Owner in Retail Pod agile ceremonies—backlog refinement, sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews and retrospectives—and partner with the Scrum Master and development team to ensure each sprint delivers defined, accepted value.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for Shopify POS and the connected retail stack, guiding priorities within the Retail Pod.
- Lead Shopify POS release management by assessing platform releases, planning adoption of new versions and features, and communicating changes to stores well ahead of deployment.
- Own user acceptance testing (UAT) for POS releases and enhancements: define test scripts, coordinate store and cross-functional testers, and secure sign-off before production deployment.
- Own the escalation path for POS incidents, partner with IT support to resolve them, and feed recurring themes into the backlog rather than treating them as one-off fixes.
- Define and monitor product health measures, including transaction speed, checkout error rates, uptime and feature adoption, and report results to Retail Operations leadership.
- Collaborate with business lines, pods and stakeholders to negotiate priorities and integrate technology solutions that enhance the in-store customer journey.
- Maintain standard operating procedures and training materials for Shopify POS and other retail systems, and support Retail-related technology projects as needed.
Qualifications
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience as a Product Owner or equivalent on Shopify POS, including direct ownership of a POS backlog, Shopify release adoption, and app and integration ecosystem decisions.
- At least 5 years of experience in the apparel or retail industry.
- Demonstrated experience with Agile methodologies as a Product Owner in a Scrum or pod delivery model, including backlog management, story writing and acceptance, and sprint execution.
- A proven track record of delivering technology-driven solutions that improve store operations, customer experience and sales outcomes.
- Ability to analyze and evaluate strategic questions and make recommendations.
- Strong understanding of retail store operations and the connected retail stack, including POS, payments, inventory and omnichannel fulfillment, in a luxury or premium retail context.
- Shopify certification, such as Shopify Foundations or Shopify Plus, preferred.
- Agile or Scrum certification, such as CSPO, PSPO or equivalent, preferred.
- Relevant certifications in Retail Operations or Project Management are an asset.
- Ability to understand the big picture and exercise sound business judgment.
- Strong organizational, planning and prioritization skills, with attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple initiatives concurrently and multitask effectively.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and tight deadlines.
- Ability to partner with other functions and business leaders on complex problems and business issues.
- Ability to influence and inspire peers, store teams and technology partners to act without direct authority.
- Strong understanding of the retail and apparel industry, with awareness of industry developments and a perspective on major issues.
- Willingness to continue learning and stay current with Shopify and retail technology.
