Leading luxury fashion house in Milan hires a Raw Materials Management Manager — Outerwear to lead sourcing, specifications and supplier strategy.
Role & Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end raw materials management for the outerwear category, including fabrics, membranes, insulation (e.g., down, synthetic fills), linings and trims.
- Develop and execute sourcing strategies to meet quality, cost, lead-time and sustainability targets; identify and qualify new suppliers and manufacturing partners.
- Define and maintain technical specifications, bill of materials (BOMs) and testing requirements; coordinate laboratory testing and approvals.
- Negotiate commercial terms, pricing and long‑term agreements with suppliers; manage cost‑down initiatives and margin optimisation.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with design, product development, R&D, production and supply‑chain teams to ensure material feasibility and on‑time delivery.
- Maintain and update PLM and ERP data related to raw materials; ensure traceability and accurate inventory forecasting.
- Monitor supplier performance, conduct audits, and implement corrective actions to mitigate quality and delivery risks.
- Champion material sustainability and compliance initiatives, ensuring adherence to standards and certifications.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Textile Science, Materials Engineering, Supply Chain, or equivalent; advanced degree preferred.
- Deep technical knowledge of outerwear materials (performance fabrics, membranes, insulation, technical trims) and finishing processes.
- Proven negotiation skills and commercial acumen with experience managing supplier contracts and cost structures.
- Strong understanding of quality assurance, laboratory testing protocols and material specification development.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional projects and to influence designers, product teams and external partners.
Skills
Experience
Typically 5–8 years of progressive experience in materials sourcing, procurement or product development for outerwear or technical apparel, including direct experience with supplier management, laboratory approval processes and cost negotiations.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Textile Science, Materials Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related discipline; a master’s degree or specialised textile qualification is advantageous.
