Confidential luxury fashion house — Fabric Inspector (fixed-term) in Prato, Italy. Incoming fabric quality control role for a leading maison.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Perform systematic inspection of incoming fabrics and materials against technical specifications, quality standards and approved samples.
  • Identify, classify and document textile defects (knit, weave, dye, finishing and dimensional faults) and apply agreed AQL sampling procedures.
  • Measure physical properties (width, weight, run/length, shrinkage) and record results in QC registers or digital systems.
  • Execute basic laboratory tests as required (color fastness, pilling, hand assessment) or coordinate external testing labs.
  • Raise non-conformance reports, recommend disposition (accept/reject/rewind) and communicate findings to sourcing, production and suppliers.
  • Maintain traceability and accurate fabric lot records, tags and labels to support incoming goods release and production planning.
  • Support continuous improvement by reporting recurring defects, participating in supplier corrective actions and updating inspection checklists.

Qualifications

  • Practical experience in textile or apparel quality control; proven ability to detect and classify fabric defects.
  • Familiarity with AQL sampling plans and basic textile testing methods (colorfastness, dimensional stability).
  • Ability to interpret technical packs, fabric construction notes and supplier certificates of analysis.
  • Strong observational skills, manual dexterity and capacity to work on standing inspection shifts.
  • Good written reporting skills and the ability to communicate issues clearly to cross‑functional teams.

Experience

Vocational diploma or certificate in textiles, apparel technology, textile engineering or equivalent practical training; on-the-job QC training preferred.
