As part of the global luxury conglomerate, Burberry offers a dynamic and inclusive work environment where creativity and excellence are at the forefront. The company is dedicated to fostering a culture that encourages diversity and sustainability, making it a leader in the luxury industry.
Burberry’s Data Platform Engineer owns the operational reliability and technical administration of Databricks and Tableau Plus, with oversight of Alation and BigEye, while coordinating closely with the 24/7 operational support partner. The role covers platform administration, service assurance, monitoring, L2/L3 troubleshooting, ITIL-aligned service management, vendor releases, security controls, documentation and continuous improvement; it does not build business reports or dashboards.
Role & Responsibilities
- Own the hands-on technical administration of Databricks and Tableau Plus, keeping both platforms available, secure, performant, well-administered and fit for consuming teams.
- Oversee Alation and BigEye, ensuring governance, catalogue, data observability and related operational processes are understood, monitored and effectively supported.
- Manage workspace and site configuration, access controls, identity integration, user onboarding, environment settings, usage controls and operational configuration.
- Partner with the operational support provider to maintain effective and consistently followed 24/7 incident management, monitoring, routine operations, escalation and service restoration.
- Coordinate operational changes, releases, vendor-managed upgrades, patches and security fixes within SaaS operating constraints, including communication, testing, risk assessment and change governance.
- Support ITIL-aligned service management, including incident, problem, change, release, request fulfilment, service transition and operational readiness.
- Monitor platform availability, performance, usage, error rates, capacity, cost trends, job reliability, dashboard performance, data observability signals and service degradation indicators.
- Investigate and resolve platform issues through L2/L3 support, root-cause analysis, remediation planning, vendor escalation and clear communication to affected teams.
- Maintain and improve monitoring, alerting, runbooks, knowledge articles, operational procedures and support documentation to keep the support model repeatable, auditable and resilient.
- Implement practical automation to improve reliability, reduce manual effort or strengthen controls, while accounting for vendor-managed SaaS lifecycle activity.
- Work with architecture, cyber security, service management and vendors to keep platform standards, access models, security controls, audit logging and operational processes fit for purpose.
- Guide Data Engineering, Visualisation & Reporting, Data Product and AI/MLOps teams on platform usage, support routes, good practice, performance considerations and operational constraints.
- Provide operational insight and reporting on service performance, incidents, changes, usage, cost trends, capacity, risks, partner performance and improvement actions.
- Build effective working relationships with internal technology teams, business users, data teams, vendors and support partners to progress issues and deliver a reliable platform service.
Qualifications
- Hands-on experience administering, supporting or operating enterprise data and analytics platforms; Databricks and Tableau/Tableau Plus experience is strongly preferred.
- Good working knowledge of Databricks administration, workspace configuration, job/runtime support, access controls, performance troubleshooting, monitoring and operational support.
- Good working knowledge of Tableau platform administration, including site/project permissions, user access, extract refreshes, dashboard performance, operational monitoring and support processes.
- Experience with data governance, catalogue or observability platforms such as Alation and BigEye is desirable.
- Experience in operational support environments, ideally with external support partners or managed service providers responsible for 24/7 service management.
- Good knowledge of ITIL-aligned service management, including incident, problem, change, release, request fulfilment, service transition and operational readiness.
- Experience coordinating SaaS platform releases, vendor-managed upgrades, patches, security fixes, configuration changes, testing and user communications.
- Strong monitoring, troubleshooting and incident management capabilities, including L2/L3 support, root-cause analysis and vendor escalation.
