Legal Counsel, Commercial & Business Affairs – Berluti & Louis Vuitton, Shanghai. Dual-role legal position within LVMH covering commercial law, PIPL compliance, and retail innovation.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary legal advisor for Berluti's business activities in mainland China, managing all local legal matters including commercial contracts, e-commerce, data privacy, and regulatory compliance
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements including distribution and agency agreements, supplier and vendor contracts, retail and lease arrangements, and marketing and sponsorship deals
  • Ensure Berluti China's legal workstream aligns with Berluti Group's legal standards, contract templates, approval processes, and governance requirements
  • Review and manage e-commerce platform service agreements (Tmall, JD, WeChat Mini Programs) and digital marketing terms for Berluti
  • Lead compliance efforts related to China's Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL) and other data privacy regulations, including privacy policy reviews, data transfer assessments, and user data collection guidance
  • Monitor changes in local laws and regulations affecting luxury retail and e-commerce in China
  • Provide legal advisory services on commercial contracts and business arrangements for Louis Vuitton's China operations
  • Draft, review, and negotiate agreements with third-party partners, vendors, agencies, and service providers for Louis Vuitton
  • Identify and mitigate legal risks in commercial transactions; escalate critical issues to appropriate management
  • Assist in managing disputes and claims related to contract performance, coordinating with external lawyers when litigation or arbitration is required
  • Participate in due diligence, document review, and legal research projects as assigned
  • Liaise with external counsel for litigation, intellectual property enforcement, or regulatory inquiries as needed
  • Support internal investigations, audits, and corporate governance requirements specific to both brands
  • Deliver training and guidance to internal stakeholders on key legal topics including contract fundamentals, data protection, and compliance risks
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere strictly to internal compliance protocols and conflict-of-interest safeguards given the dual-role nature

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or equivalent; qualified lawyer in good standing in P.R. China or common law jurisdiction
  • Minimum 8 years of legal experience gained in top-tier law firms and/or in-house roles within multinational corporations
  • Solid understanding of Chinese contract law, commercial regulations, and data privacy laws, especially PIPL
  • Experience handling e-commerce platforms and digital business models in China
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
  • Fluency in English and Mandarin Chinese (written and spoken); French is a plus
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across cultures and functions
