Bergdorf Goodman seeks a skilled Monogramming and Embroidery Specialist for temporary, seasonal work supporting in-house holiday personalization services. The role operates and maintains Baradun and Brother commercial machinery, digitizes and executes custom designs, inspects and finishes products, and supports order tracking and supplies management.
Role & Responsibilities
- Set up, adjust, and operate Baradun and Brother multi-needle commercial embroidery and monogramming machines to produce precise, high-quality custom work.
- Load, edit, and adjust embroidery files, fonts, thread colors, densities, and sizing using embroidery software.
- Frame, hoop, and stabilize delicate and structured materials—including leather, cashmere, canvas, silk, and heavy denim—without damaging the goods.
- Create personalized initials, names, motifs, and logos according to customer placement specifications and order tickets.
- Inspect completed pieces for stitch quality, alignment, thread tension, and backing removal before customer delivery.
- Troubleshoot machine errors, thread breaks, tension issues, and fabric distortion in real time to prevent product loss.
- Remove loose threads, trim backings, and press or steam finished products for retail presentation.
- Maintain machinery through regular cleaning, oiling, needle changes, and minor mechanical adjustments.
- Monitor inventory of threads, backings, stabilizers, needles, and placement guides, and notify management when reordering is required.
- Log and track custom orders in the internal management system to ensure on-time fulfillment.
- Work closely with sales and atelier teams to turn customer requests into finished bespoke items.
Qualifications
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience operating commercial or multi-needle embroidery or monogramming machines, such as Barudan 15-needle or Brother Entrepreneur 10-needle models, in a retail, garment manufacturing, or custom shop setting.
- Familiarity with embroidery digitizing software, file formats such as .DST and .PES, and machine interface controls.
- Knowledge of suitable backings, stabilizers, needles, and thread types for different fabrics and leather weights.
- Meticulous attention to alignment, color matching, symmetry, and flawless execution on high-value items.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot tension issues and thread breaks quickly.
- Ability to read and accurately interpret detailed custom order tickets and collaborate effectively with boutique staff.
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods while preparing and operating machinery.
- Fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination for precision hooping, threading, and detailed finishing.
- Ability to lift up to 25–30 lbs.
