General Ledger Accountant at Benefit Cosmetics in San Francisco, CA. Full-time, hybrid role managing financial close and tax compliance.
Role & Responsibilities
- Perform technical and operational tasks of the monthly financial close, including general ledger maintenance, journal entry preparation, and verification of general ledger coding across cost centers to ensure accurate financial reporting
- Analyze balance sheet account fluctuations to identify risk areas and operational opportunities, providing actionable insights to improve financial performance
- Collaborate with the finance team to review monthly P&Ls for assigned cost centers and conduct variance analysis of actuals versus forecast and budget, investigating and explaining major discrepancies
- Actively contribute to departmental and company initiatives to improve processes and demonstrate understanding of financial impact
- Manage US and Canadian statutory tax compliance filings including sales and use tax, San Francisco gross receipts tax, and VAT, coordinating with third-party advisors and LVMH Inc. tax teams as needed
- Analyze sales and use tax data from accounting systems and POS systems to ensure proper tax collection and accurate reflection on tax returns
- Communicate identified errors or discrepancies and assist in implementing corrective actions
- Support internal and external audits and tax return preparation by gathering requested data, conducting analysis, and resolving open issues
- Independently lead special ad-hoc projects as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum 3–5 years of accounting or related field experience
- Demonstrated high-level knowledge and understanding of GAAP
- Proficiency with accounting software/ERP systems
- Competency in month-end reconciliation and analysis
- Technical accounting knowledge and experience in financial record keeping
- Experience with auditing financial statements and documents
- Ability to prepare journal entries such as accruals and reclassifications for month-end/year-end close
