Benefit Cosmetics seeks an Associate Package Development Engineer in San Francisco to design and source cosmetics packaging components in a hybrid role.
Role & Responsibilities
- Source and develop secondary packaging components from labels, paperboard cartons, set-up boxes, tins, flexible films, and thermoform trays
- Source sampling components including sachets, individual thermoform packs, and plastic packaging as per product specifications
- Collaborate with Art and Promotional Marketing teams on packaging design strategy and execution
- Request mock-ups and color drawdowns from suppliers and coordinate internal approvals
- Route final artwork to suppliers and ensure approval of digital and printed color proofs
- Review and approve models, mock-ups, and technical drawings prior to mass production
- Approve color and defect rangeboards for all component parts
- Ensure packaging components meet package/product compatibility, integrity, and ship testing requirements
- Develop comprehensive specification sheets for all packaging components on each project
- Manage packaging timelines with the Planning and Project Management team to ensure on-time project execution
- Conduct fill and packaging trial runs at contract manufacturing facilities
- Lead status update meetings and serve as primary liaison between Marketing, Art, R&D, Purchasing, and manufacturers, ensuring all key milestones are achieved for successful launches
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering or related field of study
- Minimum 1+ year of related work experience in packaging industry, manufacturing, or supply chain
- Knowledge of secondary componentry including unit cartons, paperboard boxes, and labels
- Understanding of manufacturing, fill, assembly, production cycles, and testing procedures
- Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, drawdowns, mock-ups, and supplier proofing
- Knowledge of package development processes and project timeline management
- Understanding of product/package integration, material compatibility, and functionality
- Knowledge of printing processes and color matching
- Experience with cosmetics (preferred)
- Knowledge of packaging material sustainability (preferred)

Minimum 1+ year of related work experience in the packaging industry, manufacturing, or supply chain. The candidate should demonstrate hands-on expertise with secondary packaging componentry, manufacturing processes, and product development workflows.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering or related field of study.
