The Waiter at Hiram Bingham, a Belmond Train, in Cusco provides personalized food and beverage service aboard the train, including order-taking, menu guidance, attentive table service, and knowledge of dishes, drinks, and pairings. This is a maternity-cover position with a 4x3 work schedule.
Role & Responsibilities
- Provide warm, efficient, personalized service, with thorough menu knowledge and the confidence to make clear recommendations.
- Take food and beverage orders accurately, accommodate special dietary requirements, and recommend menu items based on guest preferences.
- Follow service protocols and meet quality, efficiency, and timeliness standards in every guest interaction to create a positive experience.
- Keep tables and service areas orderly and clean, clearing used items and replenishing necessary utensils promptly.
- Close the guest experience appropriately by offering a gracious farewell and thanking guests for their visit.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and observe designated service areas.
- Check the presentation of dishes before serving, ensuring they are clean and hot and avoiding contact with sensitive areas of the plate.
- Know the products served, including canapés, dishes, sauces, beverages, and wines, and explain them clearly, answer questions accurately, and provide timely service. This includes knowledge of ingredients, preparation methods, and suggested pairings, particularly for events and special services.
Qualifications
- At least 1 year of experience providing exceptional customer service, handling food and beverages, and working in a fast-paced environment.
- Intermediate or advanced English proficiency to converse with guests and explain services, ingredients, and the stories behind dishes.
- Ability to answer questions, make recommendations, and ensure a positive dining experience for guests.
- Attentiveness to detail when interacting with guests and accuracy in taking orders.
- Ability to organize, plan, and communicate with the kitchen and other staff members.
