Belmond is seeking a Stewarding Supervisor for Reid’s Palace, a Belmond Hotel, in Madeira. The role leads stewarding operations and the team, ensuring kitchen and service-area cleanliness, food safety, equipment availability, stock control, cost management and operational coverage.
Role & Responsibilities
- Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate the performance of the stewarding team.
- Prepare work schedules to ensure adequate operational coverage.
- Lead and motivate the team, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Oversee cleaning and sanitation of all kitchen areas, including floors, walls, equipment and utensils.
- Ensure cleaning products are used correctly and food hygiene and safety procedures are followed.
- Monitor stock of utensils, kitchen equipment and cleaning materials.
- Ensure all items needed for food and beverage preparation and service are available.
- Conduct regular inventories and organize the storeroom.
- Maintain the organization and cleanliness of all food and beverage supply storerooms.
- Ensure food hygiene and safety standards are met in all stewarding areas.
- Conduct regular inspections to identify and correct hygiene or safety issues.
- Control consumption of cleaning products and stewarding materials to optimize costs.
- Minimize breakage and loss of utensils and equipment.
- Provide breakage training.
- Supervise and coordinate all stewarding activities, maintaining cleanliness, hygiene and organization in the kitchen, service areas and kitchen equipment.
- Lead the stewarding team to ensure utensils and equipment are available for food and beverage preparation and service while maintaining food hygiene and safety standards.
Qualifications
- Experience in stewarding, hospitality or large restaurants.
- Leadership experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of food hygiene and safety standards (HACCP); certification is desirable.
- Ability to lead and motivate teams.
- Organizational ability and attention to detail.
- Good interpersonal communication.
- Knowledge of cleaning products and kitchen equipment.
- Knowledge of stock management.
- Availability to work flexible hours.
- Knowledge of stock management systems.
- Driving licence.

Experience
Experience in stewarding, hospitality or large restaurants; leadership experience preferred.

This position is based in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal.
Compensation
The base compensation for this position ranges from EUR 22,000 to EUR 24,000 per annum.
