Belmond seeks a Legal Counsel with 2–3 years of post-qualification experience to support its Legal & Corporate Integrity department and luxury train and hotel businesses in Southern Europe. The role reports to the Divisional Director of Legal, Southern Europe, and is offered on a permanent contract under CCNL Federalberghi - Turismo.
Role & Responsibilities
- Drafts, reviews, and negotiates commercial contracts, including supplier, client, partnership, and service agreements, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and internal policies.
- Provides proactive, pragmatic legal advice and day-to-day support to business functions including operations, finance, sales, marketing, and HR, helping mitigate risks and achieve business objectives.
- Manages and coordinates litigation strategy with external law firms, providing internal guidance and ensuring efficient handling of legal disputes.
- Contributes to the development, implementation, and monitoring of compliance programs, including Italian Legislative Decree 231/2001, GDPR, anti-bribery measures, and other relevant regulatory frameworks, with particular focus on supplier onboarding and due diligence.
- Provides timely, clear reporting on legal tasks and ongoing matters to line managers and relevant stakeholders.
- Conducts legal research and provides concise analysis on legal topics relevant to the hospitality and luxury sectors.
Qualifications
- Admitted to practice Italian law.
- 2–3 years of relevant post-qualification experience in a reputable law firm or in-house legal department, ideally in an international context.
- Prior in-house experience preferred.
- Experience in commercial contract law is essential.
- Knowledge of compliance frameworks, including Italian Legislative Decree 231/2001, is highly desirable.
- Excellent written and spoken English is mandatory.
- Experience in the hospitality, travel, or luxury sector is a significant advantage.
- Able to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and take initiative in a demanding environment.
- Collaborative approach and ability to build strong working relationships across departments, jurisdictions, and cultures.
- High integrity, professionalism, and sound ethical judgment.
- Able to adapt to evolving legal landscapes and business needs.
