The Carpenter at Sanctuary Lodge, a Belmond Hotel, Machu Picchu fabricates, repairs and maintains wood furnishings, structures and finishes, while carrying out preventive maintenance and diagnosing faults. The role requires at least two years of similar experience and operates on a 14-days-on, 7-days-off schedule.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, repair and maintain furniture, wooden structures and other wood features in guest rooms and public areas.
  • Adjust doors, frames, hinges, locks and other components to ensure proper operation.
  • Finish wood surfaces, including sanding, varnishing and lacquering, to required standards.
  • Install and repair decorative and structural wood elements, ensuring quality and safe execution.
  • Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance in assigned areas to preserve the facilities.
  • Diagnose faults and propose technical solutions to keep serviced items in optimal condition.
  • Use hand and power tools safely, following safety protocols and personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Protect work areas to prevent damage, guest disruption or interference with hotel operations.
  • Keep work areas orderly and clean during and after each intervention.
  • Report replacement, repair and improvement needs to support the hotel’s operational readiness and the condition of its facilities.

Qualifications

  • Technical or professional qualification in maintenance; technical training in carpentry or cabinetmaking is preferred.
  • Basic English proficiency.
  • Basic Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Knowledge of carpentry and cabinetmaking techniques, wood types, particleboard and synthetic materials.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power machinery and assembly, adjustment and installation systems.
  • Knowledge of applying finishes such as varnishes, lacquers and sealants, as well as basic interpretation of plans or designs and industrial safety standards.
  • Attention to detail and a strong quality orientation.
  • Organizational ability, responsibility and discipline in carrying out tasks.
