The Assistant Maintenance Manager at Mount Nelson, A Belmond Hotel, helps safeguard the hotel’s facilities, infrastructure and equipment while supporting a luxury guest experience. The role coordinates preventative and routine maintenance, supplies and inventory, contractors, quality standards, health and safety, and hotel inspections.
Role & Responsibilities
- Schedule and implement, in conjunction with the Chief Engineer, maintenance programmes for buildings, plant, maintenance equipment, and new building and improvement projects.
- Plan and implement the hotel’s preventative maintenance programme, covering heavy machinery, air conditioning, daily routines, and specialised equipment.
- Order and distribute spare parts, tools, and other maintenance supplies in a timely manner.
- Manage inventory of maintenance spare parts, tools, and supplies to ensure essential and frequently needed items are available for emergencies and prompt resolution of maintenance issues.
- Oversee and manage the timely completion of routine maintenance tasks and the efficient resolution of maintenance issues.
- Manage and assess work completed by the Maintenance team and external technical contractors to ensure it meets required quality standards.
- Help ensure health and safety standards are followed throughout the business and audit actions are addressed or remedied promptly.
- Ensure requests from guests, management, and employees are actioned promptly.
- Conduct regular hotel inspections with the Chief Engineer and/or supervisors to identify problem areas and plan improvements.
- Use monitoring, inspections, and follow-ups to ensure the Maintenance team works to departmental standards.
- Maintain the visual presentation of the hotel’s facilities and safeguard its infrastructure and equipment.
Qualifications
- Relevant technical qualifications.
- Previous experience in a luxury hospitality environment is advantageous.
- Experience with contractor scheduling and small project management.
- General knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, kitchen, and related trades.
- Working knowledge and understanding of basic vehicle maintenance, generators, pumps, air conditioning, refrigeration, and solar plants.
- Thorough understanding of procurement principles and inventory management.
Skills
Experience
At least 3–5 years’ experience in a similar field or role at managerial level; luxury hospitality experience is advantageous.
Education
Relevant technical qualifications.
