About Balmain
Balmain, a distinguished brand within the Swatch Group, the world's leading watchmaking conglomerate, is renowned for its predominantly feminine collections that draw inspiration from a myriad of universes. Situated in Saint-Imier, Balmain's creations are a sophisticated fusion of tradition and contemporary aesthetics, each timepiece narrating its own unique story, such as the iconic arabesque motif inspired by the opulent embroideries adorning haute couture gowns.
Balmain is seeking a Cybersecurity Engineer Assistant for a one-year work-study placement, starting in September 2026, within its IT team. The role focuses on operational security across vulnerability management, incident response, identity and data protection, resilience, infrastructure security, user awareness, automation and threat monitoring, with occasional systems and network administration support.
Role & Responsibilities
- Perform vulnerability scans using tools such as Nessus, OpenVAS and Qualys, then analyse and prioritise findings.
- Manage patching by tracking fixes and coordinating their deployment.
- Harden workstations, servers and equipment in line with recognised standards, including CIS Benchmarks and ANSSI guidelines.
- Triage and qualify security alerts from antivirus and EDR tools, logs and user reports.
- Conduct first-level investigations, including log analysis and assessment of the affected scope and incident timeline.
- Apply first-level mitigation, escalate incidents and write incident reports.
- Handle phishing cases and improve existing detection capabilities.
- Review and rationalise access rights, applying least privilege and managing privileged accounts.
- Strengthen authentication through MFA and improve account hygiene.
- Contribute to protecting sensitive data through segmentation, encryption and basic DLP.
- Secure the backup strategy and regularly verify recovery procedures, with ransomware risk in mind.
- Help prepare and test recovery scenarios.
- Integrate security into projects from the design stage through configuration reviews, filtering rules and segmentation.
- Contribute to the team's technical decisions from a security perspective.
- Raise user awareness through good-practice guidance and simulated phishing campaigns.
- Contribute to information-system mapping, asset inventories and simple procedures for incident, access and backup management.
- Automate recurring security tasks, including reporting, compliance checks and alert enrichment, using Python, PowerShell and Bash.
- Monitor vulnerabilities and threats, including CVEs and CERT-FR bulletins, and alert the team.
- Occasionally support the team with systems and network administration, including Active Directory, workstations, servers and filtering, as secondary work supporting security.
Qualifications
- Currently studying toward an engineering degree in cybersecurity, entering M1 / Bac+4, and seeking a work-study placement.
- Passion for operational security; initial experience through an internship, personal projects, CTFs or a home lab is an advantage.
- Comfortable working in an organisation without a dedicated cybersecurity department and able to make recommendations.
- Foundational knowledge of Linux and Windows systems, Active Directory and networking, including TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP and filtering.
- Understanding of core security principles, including CIA, defence in depth and least privilege; common attacks, including phishing, ransomware and web exploitation (OWASP Top 10); and basic scripting.
