Open a container of Météorites and the powder has become a small collection of objects. The colored spheres invite a brush to move across them; even before application, the form has changed the ritual. I find that a rather clever piece of beauty design. A familiar action gains a different rhythm.

Guerlain dates the Météorites collection to 1987. The pearls, compact versions and changing shades should be described separately. The little spheres earn attention as a design, but their appearance does not establish how any particular formula will look on every complexion. That belongs to a demonstration, in suitable light, on the person choosing it.

A beauty advisor in Paris can make that distinction feel entirely natural. Packaging draws us closer; knowledge helps us choose. The blue-capped Shalimar makes another ceremony of an everyday gesture, while the Baies candle brings a similarly recognizable object into the home.
