Must-know DFS Facts

All applicants ought to know these basics about DFS before applying or interviewing for any role.

DFS was founded in Hong Kong in 1960 as Duty Free Shoppers, giving it a deep heritage in travel retail rather than traditional fashion wholesale or single-brand boutiques.
The company built its reputation by serving international travelers in airport and downtown duty-free locations, so careers there often sit at the intersection of luxury retail, tourism, hospitality, and global merchandising.
DFS is part of LVMH, which can make it an appealing entry point for candidates interested in the wider ecosystem of maisons spanning fashion, beauty, jewelry, wines, and spirits.
Its stores curate multiple prestige labels under one roof, meaning employees are often exposed to a broader brand mix than at a single-house employer such as Louis Vuitton or Christian Dior.
Because DFS operates in major international travel hubs across Asia, Oceania, Europe, and North America, the brand tends to value multilingual talent, cultural fluency, and agility in fast-changing passenger flows.
DFS has also invested in elevated downtown destinations such as T Galleria, reflecting a more experiential approach to luxury shopping that blends retail theater with destination-driven client service.
