Must-know DECIEM Facts

All applicants ought to know these basics about DECIEM before applying or interviewing for any role.

DECIEM was founded in Toronto in 2013 and quickly became known as “The Abnormal Beauty Company” for challenging traditional beauty pricing, marketing and product-development norms.
Its best-known brand, The Ordinary, helped popularize ingredient-led skincare by selling single-hero actives such as niacinamide, retinoids and acids at unusually transparent prices.
DECIEM is now part of Estée Lauder Companies, which first invested in 2017, became majority owner in 2021 and completed its acquisition in 2024.
The company has built a reputation for unusually direct consumer communication, from plain-language product education to public reformulations and discontinuations when science or demand changes.
For job seekers, DECIEM offers a rare mix of startup-style brand irreverence and global beauty-group resources, with roles spanning lab innovation, manufacturing, digital, retail and sustainability.
DECIEM is headquartered in Canada but operates internationally, making it appealing for candidates interested in beauty careers with both North American roots and global scale.
